The ultra-rare 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Alloy recently fetched $4.62 million dollars at auction, making it the most expensive purchase of its kind. With only 29 versions ever built with an aluminum body, auto insiders assumed that it would go for at least a cool $2 million, but it seems one auto enthusiast was willing to go the extra mile to add this car to his collection. It can easily be said that the Alloy Gullwing is the most significant road-going Mercedes-Benz of the post-war era. SOURCE
